Crossroads Mall- (Omaha, NE)

The Crossroads Mall is still open, first off, and is an enclosed shopping center along Route 6 (Dodge Street) in Omaha, Nebraska. Currently the malls anchor stores are Sears, Target, and Barnes & Noble, and several inline stores.

Crossroads Mall started out with the purchase of a lease on the land to build the mall, and construction started in September 1959 and opened in September 1960 with Omaha's own Brandeis Department Store. The mall was one long corridor connected together with Sears and Brandeis, which were both three-stories each.

Renovations began in 1986 and after 35 million dollars invested, the remodel was complete in 1988, which included a two-story center court and food court and was roofed by an a unique circus tent like design.

Dillard's was later added as a third anchor store.

Another minor renovation took place in 1998, which was basically an update in lighting and color scheme.

In early 2005, Younker's closed, which was originally Brandeis and the building was demolished for a new Target store that opened in July 2006.

In 2007, the Dillard's became a clearance center and closed in August 2008 and by 2009, the entire two floor was completely vacant.

The mall was put up for sale and have received bids and appraisals several times and most recently, in 2014, have decided to close the mall, yet its still not closed. When the time comes for the mall to come down, it will be replaced with a new open-air center called Crossroads Village and will likely open in 2016.

Here are pictures of the mall from July 2014:

  1. Still standing, with even less tenants. Went in tonight and the entrance to Target is closed. The Dillards wing was being used for an indoor garage sale, but aside from that it's more vacant than occupied.
