Machesney Park Mall is still considered a mall, although nothing is here buy Big Lots and Burlington Coat Factory, its still mall by definition...but a dead mall it is. The malls only remaining anchor store in Bergner's. Machesney Park is a village outside the Rockford Metropolitan area and and can blame Cherryvale for its demise.
The mall was built over the former airport that closed in 1974 and opened in 1978 with JCPenney and HC Prange as original anchor's, Prange's later became Younker's, now Bergner's.
Prange Way, later became Phar-Mor, then Kohl's came along in the 1980s.
