Kennedy Mall is an enclosed mall centered in Dubuque, Iowa along Highway 20. The Malls current anchor stores are Younkers Men & Children and Younkers Women, owned by The Bon-Ton (primarily found in Iowa), JCPenney, and Dicks Sporting Goods as well as Books- A- Million, formerly Borders Books before the chain went bankrupt in September 2011.
Kennedy Mall was completed in April 1970 with Montgomery Ward opening in 1969, Younkers in 1968, and Roshek's Department Store in the fall of 1970 and F.W. Woolworth as a junior anchor store.
Today, Younkers is the last remaining original store operating in the mall as many other tenants went out of business or moved. Roshek's closed in 1982, and Montgomery Ward followed a year later, in 1983.
JCPenney relocated from downtown to the former Montgomery Ward store.
Armstrong Department Store, based in Cedar Rapids, opened in the former Roshek's store.
Sears eventually moved into the former recently occupied by Armstrong's after leaving there downtown store.
Youkers expanded there store operations by taking half the current Sears building and in January 2014, after 24 years, Sears announced it would close the Dubuque location in mid-April.
