Sears And Kmart Closing 28 Stores And Counting.

Sears Holdings is at it again with no surprise to close more stores in spring 2017 with a list of 28 stores released the other day. This will be the third list of closures this year, although these stores will begin liquidation the first week of January, and close around late-March/ early-April. There is trend now with Sears that a list is announced of stores that will close, and when those store are closed, another list is announced.

This past April, Sears announced 78 stores that all closed around August. Again, in September, Sears released a list of 64 stores that all closed in mid-December. As New Year's approaches, Sears announced nearly 30 stores will close this spring, and individual store closures are surfacing in the news daily, the list has increased the past two days to 33 stores.

Here is the latest list provided by Business Insider:

Of this list, a small percentage of stores are Sears, but primarily Kmart. Of that, a large percentage of Kmart's closing this round are in Florida and Kentucky. This doesn't look like the new year is going to start off right for Sears. The same reasoning is always used, closing stores to alleviate debt and level cost structure. Edward Lambert continues to drag the chains out as long as he can to sell as much property he can through Preit and attempt to sell long time brands Diehard and Craftsman to potential buyers.
