Westroads Mall is an enclosed shopping mall outside of downtown Omaha, Nebraska along Route 6 (Dodge Street). The malls current anchor stores are Younker's, Von Maur, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, AMC Theater, and Forever XXI. Westroads Mall is the largest mall in the state with over 1.2 million square feet of shopping possibilities.
The mall first opened in 1968 with 68 inline stores are original anchor stores JCPenney, Kilpatrick's, and Montgomery Ward and 5 & 10 store J.G. McCrory. Kilpatrick's converted to Younkers in 1982 and later closed in October 2007. Omaha's own Brandeis Department Store opened in 1972 and was converted to Younker's in 1987, then closed to be used for more mall space.
In 1973, the basement of the mall was renovated to create a mall within a mall kind of look, with a separately roofed cluster of stores in the center court and a food court was added to the former United Sporting Goods store in 1991. In 1995, Von Maur opened a store. In December 2007, A shooting took place in the Von Maur Department Store that led to nine deaths, that of which included the gunman, and several injuries.
In 2001, Montgomery Ward closed and was rebuilt when purchased by The Jones Company Store with opened in October 2002 and closed, then Younker's opened in 2003.
Galyan's opened in 2003 and was renamed Dick's Sporting Goods in 2005.
The mall has been renovated several times since opening, in 1990, 1995, 1999 and 2003 and currently went under another remodel in 2013 and 2014.
