Effingham is a small town at the crossroads of Illinois, the intersection of Interstate 70 & 57, about three and a half hours from Chicago, is the Village Square Mall.
The mall opened in 1971 with G.C. Murphy and Eisner's opening in 1972. JCPenney opened in 1977.
Later on, Rural King and Stage clothing store opened in the mall.
