I loved that store, it was such a unique experience. You were greeted at the door by an employee who would tell you "welcome to the future of shopping" and give you a small clip board and instruct you to jot down the item #'s of stuff you wanted and then give your list to the check out tech at the back of the store. You then would wait as all the other customers watched your stuff emerge from a hidden room on a conveyor belt, it was magical.
Interesting you say that because I worked there in the late 1980's in high school and college. They treated employees and customers like crap. I saw that occur in other locations too where I was a customer including one clerk chewing a customer out for not using the stupid clip board.
I never will forget after store closing when they held a meeting in the front with all employees with the lights all on. A customer tried to come in and ended up trying several different doors. The employees, including supervisors, laughed at the customer.
