The Southpark Mall is a one level mall in Moline, IL, and is one of two malls in the Quad Cities, Northpark is in Davenport, and Southpark is currently anchored by JCPenney, Younker's, Dillard's, and Von Maur.
The mall is intersected at Interstate 74 and Route-5 (John Deere Road).
The mall opened in 1974 with Montgomery Ward, Petersen Harden Von Maur, and Younker's as original anchor stores.
JCPenney was added in 1978 and Sears and a food court came in the second mall expansion in 1990.
Montgomery Ward closed in 2001 when the chain went bankrupt and Dillard's bought the space and rebuilt the store in 2004.
Walgreens left the mall in 2003 and Old Navy opened in the former space in 2006, but Old Navy closed in May 2013.
Sears closed in October 2013 a month after the mall owners decided to take on a two phase renovation plan that would involve the demolition of the former Sears store and food court, the wing built in 1990.
In April 2014, the renovations began with the demolition of what is not needed, and phase two will begin in 2015.
Here are pictures of the mall from September 2013:
