Belvidere Discount Mall- (Waukegan, IL)

Belvidere Discount Mall in a dead enclosed mall in the Suburb of Waukegan, IL, in far up north Chicago. This was the first mall in Lake County and opened in 1965 and the only anchor is The Home Depot.

The mall contained 35 stores when it first opened, and Lakehurst opened in 1971, which put a huge financial dent in the malls business.

Montgomery Ward, the malls only anchor, left in 1988 for a better spot at Lakehurst Mall.

Builder Square, a big-box home improvement store opened in the former Montgomery Ward in 1995 and was replaced by The Home Depot in 2000.

The mall has only been renovated twice, in 1985 and in 1998.

The mall in mostly occupied by Hispanic, privately owned clothing stores and shops.

Here are pictures of the center from August 2013:

  1. There is a Former mall in belvidere, illinois that was converted to a strip mall. I Don't know too much about it besides that it had a cafe, and a doctor (as well as a few other stores. It was a very small mall as it only had 1 anchor: a piggly wiggly (now a Salvation army). The list of curret stores include: Salvation army, planet fitness (soon to open) a dollar general, and an Elsie's Place. Below is the website for the company who owns the building. It seems you are in this area a lot, could come look at this mall, because there are no archives of it online. All I see is the Belvidere mall In Waukegan. Note the strip mall that it is now is called "riverside plaza" but when it was a real mall, it was called Belvidere mall. The mall's website pictures hasn't been updated, as the only store in those pictures that still exist today is a Dollar General. For more info, email me at maxgwen123@outlook.com
