I may have put too many pictures up of the same company, but its like having a serial killer on the loose, or a lost child, the more pictures of the victim you have, the better chances a search team can track them down. In this case no one is lost or dead!... but is Bally Total Fitness a wolf in sheep's clothing, as there is no direct answer to whether they are out of business, the website still exists and lists locations that are still open, yet all the yelp ads and yellow pages confirm the location no longer operate.
I was on a trip last year in the Cleveland area, and driving I spotted one location in Maple Heights, Ohio near a former Super Kmart that now operates as a Ford dealer, and it was open, and thought I should go in, but with a small window of time left before the malls close for the day, and the bad hygiene reputation these gyms had, why risk the chance.

Because this a blog based in Chicago, I focused toward locations that where is the Chicago suburbs throughout the years. All of which are now closed and were converted to L.A. Fitness, or closed permanently and are now re-purposed.
Former location in Mount Prospect, Illinois, which has been gone for a long time now, and the former Sportmart converted to The Sports Authority, and moved to the Randhurst Village and this location is now a Fresh Thyme Market. The OfficeMax is still open as of May 2015, but for how much longer is questionable, and please, does anyone know what was the empty building in the middle.
