Peru Mall-(Peru, IL)

Peru Mall located just over an hour and a half from Chicago and over an hour away from Rockford is the largest shopping center in the area. The mall is 465,000 square feet and features anchor stores:
Bergner's Department Store; an affiliate of The Bon-Ton Inc. chain.

Sears Department Store

JCPenney Department Store

Marshalls Discount Department Store

The Mall is easily accessible from IL-251 and Interstate 80 E/W seen below:

The mall originally was constructed from the Chicago building form, Rubloff Company in 1973 and opened its doors in 1974 with anchor stores Bergner's and Montgomery Ward.

Here is a commercial advertising the mall and all the stores it once housed:

A few years after the mall opened, a JCPenney opened as a third anchor.

The mall went under minor renovations in 1989 and the popularity of the mall slowly decreased. When Montgomery Ward went bankrupt in 2001, Sears replaced the store in the north wing of the mall.

Marshalls Clothing Store moved in to some of the former specialty  store space in 2006.

MC Sports was also in the mall until it moved out and relocated to the former Wal-Mart in 2007.

In 2012, Jo-Ann Fabrics decided to relocate from its current location in the former Kmart to co-anchor the Sears wing of the mall with it opening in the fall.

Below are the pictures of the coming soon sign, the old location joined to the former Kmart store, the store under construction, and the newly opened Jo-Ann Craft Store.

Other than the anchor stores, most of the interior of the most is far gone except for the typical dying mall stores like Payless Shoes, Radioshack, Christopher & Banks, and others.
