Hickory Point Mall- [(Forsyth) Decatur, Illinois)]

Not a long drive, but a rather awkward drive down one of many gateway highways to southern Illinois. Almost three hours from Chicago on Interstate 55 and US- 51 in Forsyth, Illinois, in the city of Decatur is the Hickory Point Mall, one of the final three malls I have not been to in my state. The other two are in Marion and Carbondale, but that will have to be for another day.

Hickory Point Mall opened in 1978 with original anchor stores JCPenney, Bergner's, and  Carson Pirie Scott, which all relocated from there stores downtown. Strange to see Carson's and Bergner's in the same mall, but it was before they owned each other. Kohl's came shortly after in 1983.

Carson Pirie Scott sold its store at Hickory Point and the location in Normal in 1989 to Von Maur.

Sears opened in 1998 with the addition of MC Sports.

Steve and Barry's opened at the wrong time in 2007, closing just months later with the rest of the chain.

MC Sports relocated from its original spot in the mall to the former Steve and Barry's in late 2008 and Old Navy closed in 2010.

In January 2014, JCPenney announced store closures that included this store which closed in May and the Sears closed in November 2014.

In September 2014, Ross and Ulta Beauty opened.

In October 2014, Hobby Lobby announced it would close its location down the street in favor of opening in part of the former JCPenney store.

Here are some pictures of the mall I took in March 2016:

Love to see real foliage and a fountain in a mall, reminds me of a better time.

Scar still visible...

Would think the mall is dead at shot...
